Covington—Clarence William Nelson, 66, prominent Covington business man and lifetime resident, died at 12:53 a. m. Monday (July 17, 1950) at Carle Memorial Hospital, Urbana, where he had been a patient since Saturday. He was stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage. Mr. Nelson was born Nov. 8, 1883, at Covington in the same home in which he lived at the time of his death. He was the son of Joseph and Alice May Lamb Nelson. He had been associated with the Douglas & Nelson Abstracting Company for more than 50 years and was still active in the firm. He had visited his office as late as last Friday. Mr. Nelson was a member of the Covington Presbyterian Church; Fountain Lodge 60, F. and A.M., of which he was a past master; Order of Eastern Star; Knights of Pythias, Little Lodge 36; a member of the Covington Library Board of which he had served as president; vice president of the board of directors of Fountain Trust Company, and vice president of the Covington Building & Loan Association. In 1899 four Covington men, including Mr. Nelson, formed the “August 6 Club.” Only one now survives. He was a graduate of Covington High School with the class of 1900. Mr. Nelson was married June 18, 1908, at Covington to Mamie Peters, who survives. Other survivors include a sister, Mrs. Hazel Nelson Lamb, Madison, Wis., and several nieces and nephews. The body will be returned to the family residence Monday evening, where friends may call Tuesday. Funeral services will be at 3 p. m. (DST) Wednesday at the Covington Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Everett Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery with Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in charge. The body will be taken to the church one hour before services.   -- typed by Walt W
